Golden Valley Health Centers, seeks to hire a Pediatric Hospitalist to cover inpatient Pediatrics, well newborns, and ER consults , for Doctor’s Medical Center, and Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, CA. Must be B/C or B/E in Pediatrics. We are looking for candidates who can outline their availability for coverage on an ongoing basis. The position is 24 hr shifts with an average of 5-7 shifts per month. Dual coverage will be available based on acuity, and census.

No delivery attendance is required- Level III NICU delivery support available at both hospitals

Operational/ Clinical Duties:

This is not intended to be an all-encompassing list. It defines the types of activities/procedures/privileges that the majority of practitioners in this specialty perform at this organization and inherent activities/procedures/privileges requiring similar skill sets and techniques.

  • Hours include 24-hour call coverage shifts
  • Will be handling all aspects of pediatric hospitalist cases and procedures
  • Hospitalists are the pediatrician of record during a patients stay
  • Competency in performing standard pediatric procedures i.e., Lumbar puncture, frenotomy, Bladder Catheterization etc.
  • Airway management including endotracheal intubation when, and if, necessary
  • Coordinate patient care with the primary care physician, and necessary subspecialists
  • When necessary, the hospitalist supervises and coordinates the child’s transfer to the pediatric ICU, and assumes care for children who are ready to transfer to the acute care floor from the pediatric ICU
  • Teaches the next generation of family medicine physicians by supervising Residents on Patient Centered Rounds
  • Administrative duties are required at the hospital level and participate in department meetings, and develop policies and procedures that relate to the hospitalist duties
  • Actively participates in medical staff committees to continually review medical care and promote patient safety
  • Follows national guidelines and evidence based medicine practices to provide the most up-to-date care

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high degree of tact and composure in dealing with patients and/or staff.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong time management abilities.
  • Ability to travel to other sites and/or locations as needed.

Education/Experience :

  • Must have active CA state medical license
  • BC or BE in Pediatrics required, must obtain B/C within 3 years of employment
  • BLS, and NRP / PALS certified, including a proficient skill set in the delivery room with newborn resuscitation.
  • Must clear credentialing and be able to obtain hospital privileges
  • DEA required
