Customer Service Technician Intern

INTERN - PART-TIME/TEMP

City of Lake Worth Beach Florida, Lake Worth, FL, US

Located at 1900 2 nd Avenue North, Lake Worth, FL 33460

SUMMARY: Performs technical and clerical activities associated with business licenses and building permits issued by the City of Lake Worth Beach. Provides clerical support and service to internal and external customers and coordinates a variety of activities and schedules for the City’s licensing and permitting employees.

Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Researches, investigates and gathers information regarding business licenses and/or building permits.
  • Answers telephone calls, received from the general public and provides information or referrals regarding departmental and/or City policies, procedures, applicable rules and regulations and services.
  • Handles confidential and other sensitive data.
  • Maintain files and records for department’s use.
  • Assembles and gathers data.
  • Edits correspondence for grammatical correctness and punctuation.
  • Will need to be able to walk and stand for extended periods.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)

  • Receives inquiries from customers, contractors, and other City departments by telephone, email, or in person.
  • Retrieves voicemail and return calls to customers.
  • Retrieves and schedules inspections daily.
  • Transfer permits from payment folder to permit files.
  • Other duties assigned related to the overall mission of the Department for Community Sustainability.

  • Ability to handle conflict.
  • Ability to understand and quickly and accurately follow oral and written instructions and to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Skills in multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of City business licenses and building permits.
  • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in using standard office machinery and equipment.
  • Skill in using computers and standard application software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT : Position involves sedentary to light work in an office setting. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of administrative or clerical experience including customer service experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.

Compensation details: 16.92-16.92 Hourly Wage
