Job Description

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre is currently accepting applications for the position of Housing Support Program Navigator.

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre (HRIC) is a large Indigenous not for profit organization. We are culturally based and committed to driving positive change for the community. The Housing Support Program Navigator, under the direction of the Executive Director, will work with chronically and episodically homeless participants to develop personal goals, provide appropriate referrals to community agencies and identify affordable housing solutions and sustain tenancies. The Navigator will focus on providing supports and services to Indigenous youth who are aged 16 and 17 years old who have entered into a Voluntary Youth Services Agreement (VYSA) with a society, to improve the outcomes and increase resiliency of youth who are in a VYSA.

Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm (8-hour shift within these hours of operation), occasional evenings/weekends.

HRIC is a highly flexible organization offering additional compensation including 5 paid cultural days, 4 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, paid shutdown over the Christmas holiday week, and health benefits. Requirements

* Self-Identify as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit
* Strong oral/written communication skills
* College diploma in Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, Indigenous Studies or a combination of education and experiences
* 2-years experience working within an Indigenous organization is an asset
* Knowledge and experience in working from a youth centered approach
* Experience working with individuals who are considered at-risk, marginalized or disengaged, including street-involved and homeless youth and others considered at risk including street involved and homeless individuals
* Experience using professional case management practices, with the ability to hold a caseload reflective of the Indigenous Housing and Homelessness team mandate
* Knowledge of local Indigenous and non-Indigenous community supports and services
* Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma
* Experience in Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach
* Sufficient skills in use of Microsoft Office applications and 365
* High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment
* Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
* First Aid/CPR certification
* Valid driver’s license with clear driving record and have access to reliable transportation is an asset
* A clear Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer
