TransAstra is looking for a highly motivated electrical engineering summer intern to join our Agile team near Sylmar, California. We’re working on groundbreaking technologies in optical sensing (Space Domain Awareness), orbital debris removal, and asteroid capture. As an intern, you’ll support our electrical engineering team in designing, prototyping, and testing electrical systems that power and control our hardware—and integrate closely with ground- and flight software.

This is a hands-on opportunity to work at the intersection of electronics and software, contributing to real projects with real impact.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design and development of electrical systems and PCBs for space and ground applications.
• Help create schematics, wiring diagrams, and board layouts using ECAD tools (Solidworks Electrical preferred).
• Support hardware build-testing and troubleshooting, including working with embedded systems and sensors that interface with software.
• Collaborate with the software team to ensure smooth integration between electrical components and control systems.
• Conduct lab testing and data collection using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and other equipment.
• Participate in design reviews and documentation efforts, learning industry best practices in electrical and systems engineering.

Required Qualifications:

• Working toward a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with circuit design and basic electrical engineering concepts (power, grounding, analog/digital signals).
• Exposure to or interest in embedded systems and software-hardware integration (e.g., microcontrollers, sensors, serial communication).
• Comfortable using lab equipment and basic diagnostic tools.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work on-site at our facility near Sylmar, CA.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Solidworks Electrical or other ECAD tools.
• Exposure to Python, C/C++, or similar languages for embedded programming or testing.
• Hands-on experience with prototyping (breadboarding, soldering, PCB assembly).
• Interest in space systems, robotics, or aerospace applications.
