The Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology Program (MACP) at Antioch University Santa Barbara is seeking a full-time Core Faculty member to teach in the Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology Department. The Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology program (MACP) at Santa Barbara is part of the Division of Applied Psychology in the Graduate School of Counseling, Psychology, and Therapyâ”the largest and fastest growing school in the Antioch University system.

The MACP curriculum is infused with social justice as a foundational frame, while practical experience and self-reflection provide context to support the development of well-rounded practitioners. Our curriculum meets all educational requirements for students to qualify for application as Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Students may also choose to qualify as Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC). Currently, our students in the MACP may elect to choose concentrations in Somatic Psychotherapy or Latinx Mental Health.

Position Overview

Core faculty members have responsibility in all four areas of faculty engagement including student learning, scholarship, service, and institutional citizenship. The percent of time devoted to student learning is sixty percent (60%), and the remaining areas vary with unit needs, individual skills and capacities, and stage of career. Early-career core faculty members will be provided with guidance from experienced faculty members. Core faculty report to the Chair of the MA in Clinical Psychology Department. Core faculty teach 24 units of direct instruction. Courses are taught on campus and evening and weekend availability is desirable but not required. Core faculty members have a flexible hybrid work schedule and are on campus regularly, generally three days per week. Student advising requires knowledge of Antioch policies and a quarterly review of student adviseesâ™ academic records and progress. Student advising also requires availability during regular office hours and timely response to students by email, telephone or Zoom.

A core faculty member will serve on program and university committees and is expected to participate in the work of the faculty, including developing the MACP curriculum and ensuring the quality of the curriculum and instruction to meet program, specialization, and California MFT licensure requirements. Core faculty are also expected to attend regular departmental meetings as well as scheduled community meetings with AULA every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month.

The position has responsibilities that include:

  • Typically, sixty percent (60%) of the core faculty workload is devoted to direct instruction (i.e., all credit-bearing activity, and other forms of direct instruction such as direction of independent studies, credit based special project courses, and clinical supervision courses).
  • Core Faculty are expected to commit to at least twenty-four (24) quarter credits of direct instruction.
  • Service on campus, school, and university wide committees as assigned.
  • Coordinates with admissions in reviewing applications and interviewing potential students.
  • Serves as mentor to adjunct colleagues.
  • Facilitates in the collection of data for program evaluation and accreditation processes and report writing.
  • Participates in all aspects of the MACP program including the development of workshops or special events, and student, alumni, and faculty surveys.
  • Conducts scholarly research in content area of expertise with intent to publish.
  • Participates in curriculum development and revision, grant-writing, and other departmental initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned by Chair.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Core Faculty in the AUSB MACP Program must hold:

  • An earned doctorate in marriage and family therapy, counseling, psychology in a related field from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  • A demonstrated record of at least three years of successful teaching experience at the graduate level. Teaching experience in a graduate level clinical psychology curriculum is highly valued. A proven history of high marks in student evaluations (made available to the committee)
  • Demonstrated commitment to socio-cultural diversity and social justice. We are particularly interested in psychology professionals with a commitment and track record of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the realms of research, teaching and/or service.
  • LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, or Clinical Psychologist licensure or within one year of licensing.
  • A portfolio of publication and presentation work at regional, national, and international levels
  • Academic background and experience in any of the following is desirable: somatic psychotherapy and somatic psychology, trauma studies, community psychology, multicultural psychology, mindfulness studies, liberation psychology, and ecopsychology.
  • Strong record of administrative/leadership experience in higher education.
  • Strong record of leadership/coordination role within a Clinical Psychology Department
  • Optimistic, collaborative, and proactive leadership skills
  • Strong record of both online and on the ground teaching formats
  • Interest in the development of social justice leaders and agents of community dialogue and change.
  • Skilled in demonstration-based teaching (faculty need to teach using real/live demonstration) and experiential learning
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to oversee various operational processes within the department at one time
  • Clear developmental skills with a focus on providing new opportunities for students, faculty and staff to excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skillsâ”an additional interest in grant writing is preferred
  • Ability to be flexible and working in an environment of expansion and change
